Every day, millions of Americans rely on federal data—often without realizing it. From checking the weather forecast to planning retirement, from tracking disease outbreaks to measuring economic growth, government datasets power decisions that shape our daily lives and drive billions in economic activity.

Data for the People! is a new podcast from the Data Foundation that shines a light on this essential but often overlooked infrastructure. Hosted by J.B. Wogan, each episode features conversations with leaders from the public and private sectors about the national datasets that belong to the American people and the policy changes in Washington that could enable—or limit—their use.

J.B. Wogan

J.B. Wogan is the host of Data for the People!, and serves as the director of communications at the Data Foundation. He previously hosted On the Evidence, a podcast about the intersection of public policy, social science research, and data. J.B. spent the first 10 years of his career as a journalist, writing for Governing magazine, PolitiFact, the Seattle Times, and the Sammamish Review. As a reporter, he covered a wide range of subjects within public policy, including behavioral nudge experiments, public sector innovation teams, performance management STAT programs, and pay-for-success contracting. Throughout his career, he has helped translate and contextualize complex public policy issues while lifting up proven solutions that can make society better for everyone.
